Below, we delve into the details of our services, answering common questions and providing you with the information you need to make informed decisions about your healthcare.

Urgent Care vs. Emergency Room

When sudden health issues arise, it's crucial to know where to turn. Urgent care centers like Brazos Urgent Care are designed to handle non-life-threatening conditions that require prompt attention, such as minor injuries, infections, or illnesses. In contrast, emergency rooms are equipped for severe and life-threatening conditions. Choosing urgent care over an emergency room can save you time and money, as well as keep emergency services available for those in critical need.

Walk-in Clinic Services

Brazos Urgent Care operates as a walk-in clinic, meaning no appointment is necessary. Our services are comprehensive, catering to a variety of health needs. From treating acute illnesses like the flu or sinus infections to managing minor injuries such as sprains and cuts, our clinic is equipped to provide the care you need. We also offer physical exams, occupational health services, and diagnostic testing, including X-rays and laboratory tests.

Urgent Care Wait Times

We understand that your time is valuable. At Brazos Urgent Care, we pride ourselves on having shorter wait times compared to emergency rooms. Vaccinations and Immunizations

The terms vaccinations and immunizations are often used interchangeably. Vaccinations and immunizations are both effective in preventing serious illnesses, but they have distinct differences. The main difference between vaccines and immunizations is that vaccines introduce a small, inactive version of a virus into the body, which stimulates the body's natural immunity to fight off the virus if it enters. Conversely, immunizations involve introducing an already inactive form of a virus or bacteria directly into the bloodstream. Due to their different mechanisms of action, they often require different schedules for maximum protection against disease.

Vaccinations and immunizations are two of the most effective ways to protect against serious infectious diseases, and our healthcare providers are happy to administer them. Generally speaking, many of the most common vaccinations and immunizations available today are recommended for children and adults as part of preventative health care.

Some popular vaccines we are prepared to administer include:

  • Influenza vaccine (flu shot). This yearly vaccine helps protect against seasonal influenza viruses, which can cause fever, cough, sore throat, body aches, and other symptoms.
  • Tetanus/diphtheria/pertussis (Tdap) vaccine. This booster vaccine is recommended for adults every 10 years to protect against three diseases—tetanus (lockjaw), diphtheria, and pertussis (whooping cough).
  • Varicella (chickenpox) vaccine. This vaccine is recommended for all children aged 12 months or older and unvaccinated adults up to age 26 years old. It helps protect against the contagious viral infection that causes itchy blistering rashes.
  • Human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine. HPV is a very common virus that can cause cervical cancer in women as well as other types of cancer in both men and women. The HPV vaccination is given in three doses over six months and is recommended for preteens 11–12 years old and adolescents 13–26 years old who have not yet been vaccinated against HPV.
  • Pneumococcal conjugate (PCV13) vaccine. This is a shot that helps protect young children from pneumococcus bacteria, which can cause a range of serious illnesses such as meningitis, bacteremia, pneumonia, and sinus infections. It's generally given at 2 months old followed by boosters at 4 months old, 6 months old, 15–18 months old, and 4–6 years old if not previously done.

Other vaccinations, such as COVID-19 vaccines, may also be available depending on an individual patient’s particular need. When you visit one of our clinics, we can review your medical history, including your vaccination record, and discuss what immunizations are recommended. We can also answer any questions you may have about the efficacy and importance of vaccines.
